The Internet is the best thing to happen to independent animators. Just ask Patrick Boivin. The stop-motion animator has used YouTube to catapult his career into the stratosphere. Or you could talk to animator Adam Philips, who has used his personal site and Flash animation portal Newgrounds.com to gain international acclaim.

Since a very young age, I've been enchanted by the magic of animation. I'm still fascinated how a very simple story or even just an idea of a story can be transformed with the mastery of animation into a captivating, emotional, and uniquely accessible experience. Like many high quality examples of other art forms, the magic of animation begins in the mind of its creator and once created it goes on living, reaching out to the generations to follow.

The Process of Polishing a Shot
TIPS & TRICKS WITH Michal Makarewicz

In this video, Pixar Animation Studios animator Michal Makarewicz, advises students on the polishing process. He talks about how to decide which parts of a shot should be polished and how to create a natural arc in your shots. While working on Ratatouille, Michal was able to work on a few longer shots that allowed him to progress the character. During the polishing process, he focused on building momentum throughout the shot to create an arc. Ramping up to the important part of the shots allowed him to further develop the characters' believability.

Did you know the animators of Bee Movie took a trip to San Diego, California, before beginning their work on the film to observe Jerry Seinfeld in a live performance? They used this performance as video reference to create the main character, Barry, played by Jerry Seinfeld himself.
