Welcome to our 2008 Summer Student Showcase! This reel is a compilation of creative work from 31 of our students, who reside all over the world in countries ranging from India to Germany to the U.S. to Australia and Brazil. Each of the featured clips was created exclusively by our students, demonstrating our students’ solid knowledge of character animation concepts.

AnimationMentor.com captured the attention of passersby with the jungle adventure theme booth where people could "discover the animator in you" at SIGGRAPH 2008 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Animation Mentor, which was among the 230 companies and reported 28,400 attendees at the conference held Aug. 12-14, launched its festivities by unveiling the 2008 Summer Student Showcase, a compilation of students' work that demonstrated their knowledge of character animation concepts.

What inspired you to become an animator?

Jed Diffenderfer:
When I was young enough to be playing under the pews during church (no not last year, dar har), one of my first memories EVER was watching my grandpa keep drawing the same little train on the bottom of each page of his bible –just a series of connected boxes with wheels.  I didn't know why he was doing it, but I thought it was cool watching him draw… until he flipped the pages and it friggin MOVED! WHAT?!

Did you know in Will Wright's "Spore", players are able to create creatures of all shapes and sizes and with as few or as a many legs as they wish? As such, the developers had to create a procedural animation generator that would realistically change the creatures animations depending on its size, weight, and number of legs.
