Animation Mentor is putting the student highlight back into the hands of the students themselves.  We let students create whatever they want – revealing themselves by sharing video, text, and anything else they feel is appropriate.  If you are currently an Animation Mentor student and you’d like to participate in this, send an email to newsletter (at) animationmentor.com and we’ll do our best to fit you in!

Oyku Ak- Class 6 - Short Film Production

Animation Mentor:
What inspired you to learn animation?

Oyku Ak:
I was a big fan of Walt Disney and Warner Bros cartoons, much like other students. When I was a child, I wanted to be a part of cartoons – like a character who is a friend of Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse. And a few years ago I discovered 3d animation. I thought that being an animator would be kind of like being in a cartoon. Not physically, but my spirit would be a part of it…

Animation Mentor:
What would be your ultimate dream job?

Oyku Ak:
My dream job is to be an animator on movies like Surf's Up, The Incredibles, Monster's Inc. (By the way, these 3 movies are my top 3). My wish is to have the chance to work on a big and amazing movie like one of these.

Animation Mentor:
How has your experience at Animation Mentor been so far?

Oyku Ak:
Animation Mentor is the best thing I've done in my life. Seriously. Now that I know my skill level, I feel I made a perfect choice with this school. Animation Mentor is making my dreams come true. I have already met people who I would never have met on my own.

Animation Mentor:
What's one of the most important and/or interesting lessons you've learned while at Animation Mentor?

Oyku Ak:
Anticipation and arcs were the most interesting lessons for me because discovering how we move as physical beings is pretty amazing. I pay attention to my acting now. Especially while dancing, I feel the principles and rules of animation in my own body as it is moving. I have also improved my acting skills more since attending Animation Mentor.

Animation Mentor:
Anything else you want to say to your fellow and prospective students of Animation Mentor?

Oyku Ak:
I often think about how my life has evolved during my past 2 years studying with Animation Mentor. Bishop has always been with me, and I’ve had so much fun with him. From the first class, Bishop made me pay more attention to people's movements, their acting… everything. (If you couldn’t tell, Bishop is my favorite character :) sorry Stewie...

Anyway, here are some shots...

Thank you for this amazing school. If Animation Mentor didn't exist, I would never have had the chance to learn animation. I had so much fun and learned so many things. You made some of my dreams come true. Thank you!
