Featured Alumni: Justin Segal

Check out the Featured Alumni video featuring Justin Segal! A former film school student, Justin was always interested in stop-motion animation and planned to pursue a career in animation. However, upon graduating from film school, he was presented with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the ranks of Disney as an Imagineer designing theme parks.

After spending many years as an Imagineer, Justin still wanted to fulfill his dream of becoming an animator so he enrolled at Animation Mentor.

Justin stresses the benefits of Animation Mentor’s animation process in which students are encouraged to think of the back story of the character when animating, broadening the scope of the scene by imagining what happened before and after the scene being animated. His experience with peer critiques and feedback was something that influenced his work from the beginning, sometimes re-doing sketches several times based on feedback.

"The grading is tough, the deadlines are tougher, but the rewards are great," says Justin about his experience at Animation Mentor. He looks forward to a life-long career in animation.
