Hi, my name is Jason Ryan.  I was a Supervising Animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios for almost twelve years and now I am a Supervising Animator at DreamWorks Animation Studios.  I graduated from the European School of Animation (aka Senior College, Ballyfermot), Ireland in 1993 with a “Student of the Year” award from Don Bluth (creator of An American Tail and The Secret of Nimh).  I started my career directly after college as a 2D animator and worked on various German feature Productions.  After a brief time in London working as an Animator in computer games, I was hired by Disney Animation Studios.  My first project was as an Animator on Fantasia 2000 (the Steadfast Tin Soldier segment).  Other works included Dinosaur (Kron and Carnataur), Animation Supervisor on Magic Lamp (the Genie from Aladdin in CG and 3D), Animation Supervisor on Philharmagic (classic Disney characters in CG and 3D), and Supervising Animator on Chicken Little (Chicken Little himself).  Currently I am Supervising Animator on the movie Monsters Versus Aliens from DreamWorks Animation Studios.  My teaching career began at Ballyfermot Senior College in Ireland and while working on Chicken Little, I was also a mentor with AnimationMentor.com.

WHAT DOES THIS SITE CONTAIN?

This is a one stop site that contains fully Animated Tutorials from "Basics” to “Advanced", concentrating on my "anti-technical" approach to Animation.  It also contains a fully rigged character "Boris" and various free props to help you get started in this really amazing industry.  Through this site you can purchase any individual Tutorial, a full level of Tutorials or all of the Tutorials together for a discounted price.

WHY DID I BUILD THIS SITE?
I love to teach and I love to animate, so building this site allows me to do both.  I feel that colleges can't specialize and books are all theory.  When I was studying Animation, I found the most effective way to learn was by standing over the shoulder of a feature quality animator and watch how that person approached their shots from the early concept stage all the way to final polish.  My site focuses on this method of teaching.

There is a huge need in the Industry to hire fully trained animators.  You will get this training by watching as I animate the eighteen shots, step by step and frame by frame, applying all the principles and foundations of animation in a structured and practical way.

HOW DOES THE SITE WORK?
I recorded myself animating shots through every stage of the animation process, from my concept 2D stick figure stage, blocking, fleshing it out all the way to the final polish stage in Maya.   Whatever stage of the learning process you are in, you can get a clear view on my work-flow, concentrating on how to get your best possible performances onto a Showreel or up on the big screen.  In the Tutorials, you will see me fully animating everything from basic ball bounces, character walks, runs, jumps, weight shifts, all the way to broad cartoony actions and subtle dialogue shots.  In all of the Tutorials, I'm animating with an eye for feature quality performances and highlighting the animation principles and techniques that have been passed down to me by some of the best animators in the world.  Through this site you can purchase and view any of the Tutorials via the websites streaming video player.  The Tutorial is yours to view instantly and as often as you would like but you must have a high speed broadband or DSL connection.
