AM Headquarters
By: Michael Dauz
The 2 hour commute to Animation Mentor is nothing to boast about. Driving to the BART station, taking BART, then a bus ride and finally skateboarding the rest of the way to work is very exhausting. Once I hop off my skateboard and enter the realm of the AnimationMentor.com headquarters everything seems to be ok. My energy is revived as I am greeted by my fellow employees, Becky, Dan, Rosie, Francis, Luis and Lleslle. As I work my way up to the video editing suite I realize its quiet and calm.
The quietness can be unsettling. What I need is my morning fix of BOOM energy. I pop my head into his office and hear Bobby shout out, "There he is! What's up my man?!"
"Hey Bobby, morning!" I respond with equal energy. I got my morning fix, now I'm ready to work.
There are three of us in the editing suite: Rachel, Rich and myself. Rachel is the ringleader keeping us motivated but also preventing us from getting overly excited and making too much noise. With the subtle hum of multiple iMacs and 500gig harddrives and a gentle breeze blowing in from the outside, the setting is perfect for focusing on our work. Editing and putting together the classes is a treat. There is always a project to do that keeps my everyday work exciting. Being surrounded by so many talented people with the same interests, makes me feel like I'm in school again. The teachers and mentors are just amazing and it excites me to know what is in store for each student. Everything is going so well now, and I know things are just getting better and improving each week.
One of the greatest perks of this company is that we've not only become employees who work well together, we've also become friends. The occasional high energy scream of delight coming from our CEO, Bobby, at all hours during the day still puts a smile on my face. Look at the photo of all us, Bobby's energy should show you what gets us through each day. After working for a big corporation of 1000+ employees, and now for AnimationMentor.com, where there's less than 15 employees and the CEO that not only knows your name, but your personal interests, is a great feeling. I'm happy to be working here and making sure the students have a great learning experience. |
